For Immediate Release .September 23, 2002, Leeds, AL: Dr. Evert Vos, MD, PhD joined DRUQUEST as an associate in August 2002, providing project management and consulting services in pre-clinical and early clinical development of new drugs. Dr. Voss can assist or be “hands on” designing and managing development programs tailored to specific drug candidates. He has experience in working in large corporate environments and in small start-ups where the goal is to add value to new compounds quickly. In the past four years with a small company, he demonstrated the efficiency of early drug development utilizing a “virtual organization”. He brings his extensive background in pharmaceutical development and his recent experience in organizing a virtual development team to serve DRUQUEST clients in the development of their new compounds. Dr. Vos worked in clinical development and R&D in the pharmaceutical industry for 25 years, initially with Smith Kline & French (now GSK) and then for 17 years with Ciba Pharmaceuticals in Canada (now Novartis) where for the last 11 years of his tenure he was Vice President for Medical Affairs and R&D. During those years he was intimately involved with clinical development and regulatory issues. During the past five years Dr. Vos worked in Australia as a consultant with the Biomolecular Research Institute in Melbourne and from late 1998 till May 2002 with Metabolic Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Melbourne. With the latter he was on the Board of Directors and was responsible for the early development of a putative anti-obesity drug, AOD9604. Currently, he is a non-executive Director on their Board and acting Medical Director. At this time he resides in the U.S. During his tenure with Metabolic Pharmaceuticals, he pioneered a “virtual drug development department”. He was the sole staff person in the Company responsible for the development of AOD9604. He managed a group of consultants and contract laboratories and manufacturers, taking the compound through manufacturing, safety pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical development, Phase 1 and early Phase 2A in three years. Dr. Vos has a BSc in physiology and a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Alberta, Canada. He obtained his MD degree from. Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada DRUQUEST International, Inc. is a Birmingham Alabama company providing consulting services to the Biopharmaceutical industry worldwide. These consulting services include project management of preclinical and early clinical development, toxicology, pathology, information management and training. DRUQUEST was founded in 2000 by Joanne R. Kopplin, DVM, PhD, MBA. She serves as President and CEO of the company. With the addition of Dr Vos, the staff has grown to 2 Principals and 7 Associates.
